Pflugerville's Downtown East project is approaching the design phase following several months of community engagement.

At a June 28 work session, Pflugerville City Council received a presentation recapping the findings of recent public engagement events and highlighting the project's next steps.

The city has held two open house events related to Downtown East in recent months: one in April and another June 23.

Some of the key priorities established during those meetings were connectivity with existing trail systems, walkable open space, and plentiful retail and restaurant options, Assistant City Manager Emily Barron said in the presentation to council.

At the June 28 meeting, council also approved a contract with design firm FGM Architects Inc. for the 120,000-square-foot recreation center that will act as one of Downtown East's centerpieces.

Next steps on Downtown East include two meetings of an 18-member resident stakeholder committee June 29 and July 25.

On July 26, council will discuss developer solicitation and funding options for the project at its regular meeting.
