A historic building at 201 N. FM 1660, Hutto could soon be home to a chiropractor's office that could replace current business Bless This Nest, a clothing and home decor shop.
At a June 2 meeting, Hutto City Council approved a specific use permit allowing medical office use at the location.
The applicant, Dr. Jinger Poth, said she plans to use the building for her chiropractic practice.
However, Marci Wagner, owner of Bless This Nest, as well as the property the business inhabits, said that although permits have been applied for with the city, there are still numerous steps that must occur before the deal is permanent.
“It is still in the feasibility study,” Wagner said. “The bottom line is I’m not closing this deal today, or this month, or the month after. It is still premature.”
During the June 2 meeting, some officials said they were concerned an abundance of medical offices downtown would keep the area from being a destination for visitors and community members.
"Anything professional, there's a limit to what percentage you might want," Council Member Dan Thornton said. "They're all going to close their doors ... at 5 o'clock, and then it's going to be a ghost town."
Council voted 5-1 to approve the permit, with Council Member Krystal Kinsey absent and Mayor Mike Snyder voting no.
If the deal goes through, the project would still need site development and building permits before construction could begin. Additionally, any changes to the exterior would require approval from the city's Historic Preservation Commission.
