All nonessential Williamson County government offices will be closed Feb. 3-4 due to forecasted severe winter weather in Central Texas, according to a Feb. 2 release from the county. Essential personnel will continue to report for duty.

The National Weather Service says a strong arctic cold front will bring the coldest temperatures of the winter into South-Central Texas and with it, the possibility of winter precipitation.

"Confidence continues to increase that a wintry mix of freezing rain and sleet will occur across portions of South Central Texas by Thursday morning and continue into the afternoon," according to a Feb. 3 NWS post at 2:35 p.m. "A high confidence exists that freezing rain and sleet amounts will cause hazardous travel impacts through the Hill Country and into the Austin metro area by Thursday morning and continue through the day."

Because of this, the agency has issued a winter storm warning for Williamson County from midnight-9 p.m. for Thursday, Jan. 3.
