Drivers traveling northbound on US 183 will no longer be able to make a U-turn near RM 620 due to a yearlong construction-related closure that began Oct. 10.

Drivers will now need to go through a traffic light on the frontage road to turn left and make a U-turn to go southbound. The closure is due to the road construction of express lanes and nontolled lanes under Phase 1 of the US 183 North Mobility Project.

The Central Texas Regional Mobility Authority closed the U-turn to allow construction vehicles and crews access to the center median between the northbound and southbound lanes of US 183 and to prevent traffic delays from construction vehicles entering and exiting the roadway.

Entrance to the U-turn will be signed as “construction traffic only” with additional signage advising drivers to turn left at the intersection.

The CTRMA is constructing the US 183 North Mobility Project in north Austin to improve mobility, reduce congestion and provide more reliable travel times for transit and emergency responders along the 9-mile stretch of US 183 between SH 45 North and MoPac.
