Northwest Austin residents have an opportunity to review and leave comments on improvements at the increasingly congested intersection of Anderson Mill Road and RM 620.

The Texas Department of Transportation on the morning of Aug. 26 is hosting a virtual public meeting on its proposed project at the intersection. As part of the public meeting process, TxDOT will field questions and collect written comments from the general public regarding the project.

According to early planning materials from the state agency, the project will add elevated bypass lanes at Anderson Mill and El Salido Parkway. Further, the state will build frontage roads and turn lanes, intersection improvements, and bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure around the intersection at Anderson Mill and RM 620.

In all, the project will stretch for more than a mile along RM 620 from just south of Foundation Road to Little Elm Trail. TxDOT materials state the proposed project has the potential to displace 20 nonresidential structures near the project.

Improvements at this intersection have been on hold for more than a year after $25 million in funding for the project was redirected to pay for I-35 improvements. Traffic at the intersection at RM 620 and Anderson Mill swelled by more than 30% from 2010-18, according to TxDOT data.

Bradley Wheelis, public information officer with TxDOT, said in an email to Community Impact Newspaper the project is still unfunded, though the department is looking to identify funds for the proposed improvements. TxDOT will finish the schematic design sometime by the end of fall 2021, Wheelis said.

Residents interested in reviewing planning documents and providing feedback can access the public meeting through this link at 10 a.m. on Aug. 26.

Written comments regarding the proposed project may be submitted via email or sent by mail to Matthew Cho, P.E., TxDOT project manager, TxDOT Austin District Office, P.O. Box 15426, Austin, Texas 78761-5426. All comments must be received before or on Sept. 10.
