As part of a project to build or reconstruct new interstate flyovers in North Austin, the Texas Department of Transportation will close main lanes on I-35 from late night into early morning Aug. 2-3.

Bradley Wheelis, public information officer for TxDOT, said in an email to Community Impact Newspaper that upcoming work will require temporary closures on both the southbound and northbound lanes of I-35 near US 290 East.

The I-35 southbound main lanes at US 290 East will close Aug. 2 from 11 p.m.-5 a.m., and the northbound I-35 main lanes between US 290 East and US 183 will close Aug. 3 from 11 p.m.-5 a.m. Traffic both nights will detour to the frontage road. Drivers are advised to look for traffic changes and detour signs.

The state is closing this section of I-35 as crews install overhead sign bridges, Wheelis said. Crews are working to finish work on the reconstructed northbound I-35 to northbound US 183 flyover and the northbound US 183 to northbound I-35 flyover.

Both of the bridges are expected to open sometime in fall 2021, Wheelis said.
