Several road construction projects are underway across Northwest Austin.

Work includes progress on a yearslong state project that connects I-35 to US 183 in North Austin as well as some work that will get the ball rolling on one of the largest projects along US 183 to date.

Here are some updates to transportation projects readers should know about across Northwest Austin.

Parkfield Drive improvements

The Austin Transportation Department in May began construction on a series of mobility improvements along Parkfield Drive in North Austin.

City crews have repaved Parkfield between Payton Gin Road and Rundberg Lane ahead of the first phase of improvements, which are currently underway.

As previously reported by Community Impact Newspaper, the city will add striping and install new buttons and flex posts to create temporary pedestrian crossing islands during the initial phase of construction.

I-35 at US 183 flyovers

Several lanes are closed for different periods of time as the Texas Department of Transportation works to build and reconstruct flyovers connecting I-35 to US 183 in North Austin.

Through June 5, the left lane of the northbound I-35 frontage road from Rutherford Lane to Hermitage Drive will be closed daily from 9 a.m.-3 p.m.

Exit 240 on southbound I-35 for US 183 and St. Johns Avenue will be closed through September as part of the flyover project, according to TxDOT materials.

Another long-term ramp closure off I-35 will impact traffic patterns through October. The state last month demolished the northbound I-35 to northbound US 183 flyover and will keep a detour in place as it reconstructs the ramp over the next several months.

Drivers wanting to connect to northbound US 183 off northbound I-35 will be detoured around a U-turn at Rundberg Lane. That U-turn is now closed to local traffic.

US 183 lane closures

Several areas of US 183 and nearby frontage roads will see intermittent closures June 3-4 due to survey work being conducted by the Central Texas Regional Mobility Authority.

The work is related to design of the 183 North Mobility Project, according to Mobility Authority spokesperson Emily Gauci.

Lakeline Boulevard at US 183 improvements

The ATD has finished mobility and safety improvements at the intersection of Lakeline Boulevard and US 183, according to a June 1 newsletter from the city.

Construction added dual left-turn lanes on westbound Lakeline Boulevard to the southbound US 183 frontage road and modified the median along Lakeline east of US 183.

Work also extended some sidewalk on the US 183 frontage road and updated signals, signage and striping around the intersection.
