Work is continuing on the Spicewood Springs Regional Mobility Project between Mesa Road and Loop 360 in North Austin to improve road conditions, vehicle and pedestrian mobility, and upgrade water systems.
Capital Delivery Services officials provided next steps for construction crews in a Jan. 30 construction update, as work is expected to continue into 2026.
Some context
The project was first approved for $34.18 million in September 2023, with construction breaking ground that December and utilizing funds from the 2016 mobility bond.
Projects include widening the two-lane road into a four-lane road with left-turn bays, as well as creating two water detention ponds and pedestrian and bicycle shared-use paths, and improving the storm drain system, water transmission and wastewater lines.
The update
Per CDS officials, construction crews have already installed over 1,000 feet of waterlines, removed and replaced a 66-inch water valve at the intersection of Spicewood Springs Road and Old Spicewood Springs Road, and completed 5,000 square feet of sidewalks and driveways.
Next, crews will:
Begin paving the north side of Spicewood Springs Road, starting at Loop 360 and moving west
Install a 48-inch water transmission line
Continue construction on retaining walls
