Ahead of inclement weather, three districts across the Northwest Austin area have canceled classes Jan. 21, including Austin, Pflugerville and Round Rock ISDs.

The details

On Jan. 19, a Winter Storm Warning was issued for the Central Texas area for 6 p.m. Jan. 20 through 6 p.m. Jan. 21, according to the National Weather Service. Conditions east of I-35 can expect up to two inches of snow and sleet mix, while areas west of I-35 are expected to produce up to an inch of a mix of snow, sleet and ice, information from the NWS states. The districts are already closed Jan. 20 in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. day.

Austin ISD: All Austin ISD schools and offices will be closed Jan. 21 due to expected winter weather. District officials said they will continue to monitor weather updates from the NWS.

Pflugerville ISD: The district will close Jan. 21 due to the weather, but has plans to reopen Jan. 22. District officials will keep parents informed if anything changes, according to a message on the district’s website.

Round Rock ISD: All schools and offices are closed Jan. 21 due to the weather. District officials said they will continue monitoring weather conditions and providing information on classes for Jan. 22, according to a post on the district’s Facebook page.

What else?

A “weather watch” was issued for Jan. 20-23 by the Electric Reliability Council of Texas, or ERCOT, as previously reported by Community Impact. This indicates high electric demand and potentially lower power reserves, but grid conditions are expected to be normal during the watch period, ERCOT officials said in a news release.
