Austin ISD announced April 24 that modernization renovations on Hill Elementary School, located at 8601 Tallwood Drive, Austin, will begin May 1.

Due to social distancing guidelines mandated due to the coronavirus, the groundbreaking ceremony for the work will be held virtually over a Zoom conference, the school district announced. Ceremonies will last from 10-11 a.m., and the district will provide a recording of the event for those unable to attend, according to an April 24 AISD news release.

This construction is funded by the 2017 AISD bond program, which included more than $17 million to add modernization improvements to Hill Elementary. According to district bond documents, those improvements include provisions to address overcrowding and future growth as well as upgrades to school infrastructure to comply with districtwide specifications.

To meet those goals, construction at Hill Elementary will ultimately add classroom space, additional on-site parking and technology space and equipment improvements.

The modernization work will also include electrical system improvements and heating and air conditioning improvements, according to the AISD website.

Construction at Hill Elementary is scheduled to be complete by summer 2021, district documents show.
