Having lived in New York City after growing up in Pakistan, the immediate hospitality was something he had not experienced before, he said. “People are so nice,” he said. “They are so friendly.” Majid and his brother, Afridi, opened Texas Wings & Grill on July 28 on Pond Springs Road with a goal of catering to many tastes and offering customers in the immediate area something new, Majid said. The result is a varied menu that includes chicken wings, Philly cheesesteak, gyros, chicken sandwiches, burgers, Afghan rice platters, seafood combinations and Blue Bell Ice Cream. Texas Wings & Grill also offers catering and delivery within 5 miles of the restaurant. Majid said he and his brother picked the location in the Springwoods neighborhood just east of US 183 after seeing a lack of similar restaurants in the area. They also did not want to directly compete with established eateries, he said. Afridi ran restaurants in Brooklyn that focused on fried chicken, but Majid said with Texas Wings & Grill they wanted to adapt to local tastes. Majid said he has been encouraging feedback from diners as the restaurant gets to know its new customer base.
