International money transferring company Wise announced in September it will occupy three floors in Domain Tower 2, which Austin leaders say will reinforce the city's reputation as a "launch pad for innovation and investment."

The details

Wise was founded over a decade ago in the United Kingdom. It first expanded into Austin in 2022, and has been headquartered in the city since 2023.

The company will now span 90,000 square feet in Domain Tower 2, which increases its current office footprint by 200%.

During a fireside chat with Opportunity Austin on Sept. 8, Wise CEO Kristo Käärmann said the company is still in the beginning of its journey as a money-moving service, aiming to grow from moving 5% of money—less than 1% of which is small and medium sized businesses who make international payments—to 10-20%.

"We want to be reasonable in how we grow, so tripling the floor space here is probably a way," Käärmann said.

Along with Wise, other Domain Tower 2 tech company tenants include PayPal, Samsung and Shiftkey.

"We're doing a new strategy every five years [because] the growth is occurring," said Susan Davenport, Opportunity Austin chief economic development officer. "At different interludes [how] do we actually step back and say, 'What are we going to create ... now that this tech ecosystem is grown out to the degree it is?' We're enhancing our international global outreach."
