Ahead of the upcoming 2021-22 school year, NYOS Charter School in North Austin will complete construction of its new campus expansion.

Work on the new 76,000-square-foot expansion is expected to wrap by mid-July, according to Amy Elms, community outreach specialist for NYOS.

The expansion will add an entirely new campus adjacent to the existing NYOS campus, located at 12301 N. Lamar Blvd., Austin. When it opens, the new campus will house pre-K to eighth-grade students, and the existing campus will be converted to serve high school students.

The new campus facility will include a new building for elementary students, a new middle school building, a practice field and a gym, and a performing arts space, according to a May news release from NYOS.

The charter school estimates the expansion will allow the campus to welcome in more than 370 additional students in kindergarten through sixth grade. NYOS is planning a further second expansion of the new campus for the 2022-23 school year with additional seats added in 2022 as well, according to Elms.

NYOS enrolled more than 1,000 students during the 2020-21 school year, according to enrollment reports from the Texas Education Agency.

Renovations on the high school campus are scheduled to begin later this year, according to NYOS. Elms said the preliminary timeline for the high school renovations is winter 2021 through summer 2022.
