Every school in Northwest Austin was assigned a recommendation by the Facilities and Bond Planning Advisory Committee based on data relating to facility conditions, educational suitability and utilization, as well as the district’s vision for academics and programming and community feedback. The projects are phased over a 25 year period.

AISD facility plan to address aging sites, enrollment

Renovation

An existing school may be restored to “like-new” and modern conditions within the same essential configuration. 1. Anderson High School (years 17-25) 2. Burnet Middle School (years 12-25) 3. Davis Elementary School (years 1-6, 17-25): Davis will undergo a renewal project in the first six years of the plan’s implementation to increase capacity and address flooring issues. 4. McBee Elementary School (years 6-12, 12-25): In years 6-12 of the plan’s implementation, a renewal project will help accommodate prekindergarten students being absorbed from Lucy Read Pre-K. 5. Summitt Elementary School (years 1-6, 12-25): Renovations in years 1-6 will increase capacity through an addition or reconfiguration to the existing facility. A boundary adjustment will be considered with Davis due to growth in Davis' attendance area. 6. Wooldridge Elementary School (years 6-12): The goal is to modernize and update  permanent facilities to eliminate the need for the existing eight portables.

Full modernization

An existing school may be replaced or restored to “like-new” and modern conditions that serve the requirements of 21st-century learning. 7. Cook Elementary School (years 1-12): The school received a poor facility condition score and needs significant repairs and upgrades to absorb students from Lucy Read Pre-K, which is located within the Cook attendance boundaries. 8. Doss Elementary School (years 6-12): The school will be expanded to accommodate growing student populations. 9. Hill Elementary School (years 6-12): The school will be fully modernized to incorporate state-of the art technology, flexible leaning spaces and community spaces. 10. Lanier High School (years 1-6, 12-25): Facility update in years 1-6 would provide new and upgraded spaces and equipment. 11. Murchison Middle School (years 1-12): The campus will be fully modernized to address issues with educational suitability and expanded to help relieve projected overcrowding.

Targeted project

This is recommended for schools to address near-term needs while a project awaits its scheduled modernization, or to address specific academic strategies. 12. Padron Elementary School (years 17-25): One of AISD’s newest facilities, it will need upgrading to keep the facility in good condition and renewal projects to address educational suitability needs.

Repurpose

13. Lucy Read Pre-K (years 6-12): The school serves pre-K students who live in Cook, McBee, Wooldridge and Doss attendance areas. Future projects at these sites will allow students to return to original attendance boundary schools. The school will be repurposed for district or community uses.

New facility

Northwest Austin relief elementary school (years 1-6): The new school will provide relief for overcrowding issues at Doss and Hill elementary schools. Its size will be determined when land is acquired and AISD performs a site study. Doss will also be expanded to relieve overcrowding.
