Austin is going to continue growing over the next five years, with its population projected to reach 943,555 by 2020, according to a city of Austin report obtained Wednesday by Community Impact Newspaper.

District 4

The report from the city's Office of the Auditor reveals some interesting citywide data as well as snapshots of what affordability, or lack thereof, looks like in all 10 of Austin’s geographic single-member districts.

Community Impact Newspaper’s Northwest Austin coverage area includes Austin City Council districts 4, 6, 7 and 10. Here are some of the findings for those districts:

District 4:



  • Population slated to grow from estimated 82,873 in 2015 to 89,024 in 2020

  • $33,840 median household income

  • $178,360 median appraised home value

  • Top three industries were construction, accommodation/food services and retail trade

  • 66 percent Hispanic, 20 percent white, 10 percent African-American, 3 percent Asian, 2 percent other


District 6: 



  • Population slated to grow from estimated 88,927 in 2015 to 98,511 in 2020

  • $78,510 median household income

  • $387,660 median appraised home value

  • Top three industries were professional/tech services, manufacturing and retail trade

  • 62 percent white, 16 percent Hispanic, 14 percent Asian, 5 percent African-American, 3 percent other


District 7:

  • $55,750 median household income

  • $264,140 median appraised home value

  • Top three industries were professional/tech services, educational services and retail trade

District 10: 



  • Population slated to grow from estimated 85,533 in 2015 to 92,540 in 2020

  • $83,890 median household income

  • $522,270 median appraised home value
