Residents can hear more details at a March 15 event about the final leg of construction for the first phase of the Northern Walnut Creek Trail in Balcones District Park in Northwest Austin.
The Austin Public Works Department has planned a meet-the-contractor event for 6:30 p.m. March 15 at Covenant United Methodist Church, 4410 Duval Road, Austin.
The city will start construction in mid-March to build the last 2,000 feet of the concrete hike and bike trail as well as 200 feet of sidewalk, retaining walls and stormwater facilities.
During construction, residents can expect to see a staging area for construction off Scribe Drive with two construction entrances off Scribe and Amherst drives. Access to the baseball field will be temporarily restricted off Stony Drive. The trail also will be closed once construction begins.
The first two segments of Phase 1A were completed Jan. 11, and Austin City Council approved a contract Feb. 1 for the remainder of Phase 1A.
Design work wraps up this spring on Phase 2 that would extend the trail to I-35. Construction will occur in 2019.
Monthly updates on the project are posted online.
