Spring is here and that means the city of Austin will be completing street maintenance through September.

A number of streets in Northwest Austin will see road work, including several streets in the Milwood neighborhood and streets near Parmer Lane, Metric Boulevard, Braker Lane, Great Hills Trail and Lamar Boulevard as well as in some neighborhoods near Spicewood Springs Road.

The city performs five types of street maintenance, including sealcoat, which involves spraying a thin layer of asphalt and water followed by a layer of small gravel to waterproof the street.

Residents in affected areas will be notified 30 days and then three days before work begins; however, residents may also call the city's hotline at 512-974-9788 to hear the daily schedule.

The city asks residents to follow some tips to keep workers safe when performing maintenance:

  • Avoid parking on the street when street work is scheduled. Park vehicles in a driveway if you plan on being away while work will be performed.

  • Drive slowly over the new surface and avoid hard braking, sharp turns or fast acceleration.

  • Pay attention to signs and flaggers and drive cautiously through work zones.
