What we reported

Austin voters approved the $720 million mobility bond Nov. 8 that dedicates $482 million toward improvements on eight city corridors; $101 million toward regional projects; and $137 million toward implementing the city’s sidewalk, bicycle, urban trails and traffic fatality-reduction plans. The city is in the process of hiring a consultant to create a corridor plan to outline how to spend those funds.

The latest

In December, Austin City Council approved releasing $28 million in bond funds for the transportation and public works departments to begin early design and construction of sidewalks, safe routes to school, urban trails, bikeways, traffic fatality-reduction goals, capital projects and consultant funding to develop corridor reports.

What’s next

City staffers will start outlining the first steps toward using the $28 million. In February, staffers will return to council with a plan for how the bond will be implemented. If council approves those plans, the city would begin work using the $28 million. Council could approve releasing additional bond funds in April.
