Northwest Austin is getting another new restaurant just in time for summer.
The Back Porch will open by late June in the former Vivo Tex-Mex restaurant space next to Noble Sandwich Co. at 12233 N. RM 620, Ste. 104, Austin.
“I thought there was a gaping hole up here for places with great service and high-quality food,” owner Dan Parrott said.
He said he trained as a chef in Europe under a master chef at Le Cordon Bleu. He has owned 11 restaurants and helped open more than 60.
“I’m into good food; it doesn’t have to be pretentious,” Parrott said. “We want to make sure every guest leaves delighted.”
Parrott said he wants the restaurant to be a place for date nights, casual meals or for families to hang out at after karate or dance classes in the Lake Creek Village shopping center. He said staff members are also receiving training on serving people with special needs, including those with multiple sclerosis and autism spectrum disorder.
“If you make it a place where people can come and be appreciated and taken care of and produce good food, they’ll come back,” Parrott said.
The menu, which suggests pairings of food with beer and wine, will include pizzas and flatbreads made in a wood-fired terra cotta oven, salads, pasta and signature burgers.
“It will have premium beef you can’t buy in the store,” Parrott said. “One cut is the filet. We’re grinding [meat] two times a day, so they’re fresh.”
Complementing the fresh burgers will be Belgian-style fries made from Kennebec potatoes and served with housemade condiments.
“You will get a fry that will crack when you bite into it, and it’s soft as a pillow inside,” Parrott said.
Not to leave out vegetarians, Parrott said the veggie burger will be made from a spicy black bean mixture. The restaurant will also cater to people with food allergies and offer gluten-free items.
The Back Porch will also have a happy hour with $2 off beer and select glasses of wine as well as with featured cocktails, such as the Spotted Dove with rum, lime and ginger.
