New citywide program the Artist Access Program is helping Austin-based artists find a free or low-cost space to host rehearsals, performances or workshops.

Through Dec. 16 artists can apply for rental space at city-owned cultural centers including The Asian American Resource Center at 8401 Cameron Road, according to a news release from the AARC.

Applications are evaluated by a panel of Austin-based professional artists with a predetermined set of criteria.

Artists seeking a venue for rehearsals, if chosen, can use the space free of charge. To use it for performances the space is rented for $1 per ticket sold, which is a lower rate than it is rented to the general public, according to the release. Applicants must also include a free educational element for the public in the application.
