The gist

NYOS—which stands for Not Your Ordinary School—is a free, public charter school.

Community Outreach Specialist Blanca Martinez said the school was started in 1998 by a group of parents who wanted to provide a better education for their children. Twenty-five years later, the school has grown to serve more than 1,700 prekindergarten through 12th grade students.
