New office space at the Domain Northside and a mental health diversion center will be coming to Austin within the next several years.

Domain Northside project

An office building consisting of a 400,000-square-foot tower and 600,000-square-foot parking garage is in the "preliminary planning stages" in the Domain Northside shopping center, according to representatives with developer and commercial real estate agency Northwood Retail.

Designed by Boka Powell and the Michael Hsu Office of Architecture, representatives said the project name and timeline is still being finalized.

Mental health diversion center

Travis County will kick off the design phase for a mental health diversion center in early 2024, as previously reported by Community Impact.

The first design phase will take about one year to complete and cost $2 million. According to county documents, the entire center could be up and running by mid-2030.

Spearheaded by Travis County Judge Andy Brown, the center would be an alternative to jail for people who commit nonviolent crimes and suffer from mental illness or substance abuse disorder.

While the design phase kicks off, commissioners and project leaders are still ironing out what services will be provided when the diversion center does open. County commissioners have previously discussed the possibility of connecting those admitted to the diversion center to medication or with psychiatrists, psychologists or persons with lived experience.
