A day after narrowly winning the runoff race to represent the Democratic party for U.S. House District 25 May 22, Julie Oliver reached out to supporters with an email Wednesday. She offered her thanks and laid out her strategy. “I’m so proud of the truly grassroots campaign we’ve built—all without PACs, or pollsters or insider connections—by just showing up and listening to our fellow Texans who are ready for change,” Oliver wrote in an email. She went on to thank her primary election rival Chris Perri for “the intensity and passion he and [his spouse] Shannon poured into this campaign.” Oliver wrote her team’s strategy leading up to November’s general election will include embarking on a listening tour over the sprawling District 25, which spans 13 Texas counties including parts of Wimberley, Bee Cave, Lakeway, the Westlake area and up to the Fort Worth area. “We're going to keep talking about how we ensure that every single American can see a doctor and afford prescriptions, about honoring our commitments to veterans and their families, and about ensuring that teachers get better pay and that every child in this district is able to get the best possible public education. We’ll keep talking about how we can create good-paying jobs for the people of this district-whether you’re in Austin, Killeen, Wimberley, Burleson, or anywhere in between,” she said in the email. Oliver will face incumbent Rep. Roger Williams in November. Williams has held the district seat since his election in 2012 after serving as Texas Governor Rick Perry’s secretary of state, according to his website. Community Impact Newspaper reached out to Williams' office Thursday for comment to news of Oliver's primary win and will update this post when a response is received.
