Frisco City Council approved a contract with the Denton County Transit Authority Dec. 1 to provide on-demand transit service for elderly or disabled residents.
The contract replaces the financially troubled Texoma Area Paratransit Transit System. The TAPS contract expired Dec. 1.
DCTA began providing services for residents Dec. 1 even before the Council approved the contract.
The contract with DCTA is similar to the former contract with TAPS. The transit services are available to residents older than age 65 or who have a disability for medical care-related purposes.
Riders have to schedule service at least 24 hours in advance, and the fare rates are the same as those charged by TAPS for the time being.
The term of the contract is for one year.
The contract does not include service to the city of Plano. The services take riders within the cities of Frisco, McKinney and Allen. Frisco Engineering Services Director Paul Knippel said DCTA and city staff picked the cities that riders traveled to the most when using TAPS.
DCTA President Jim Cline said and DCTA will continue gathering input from riders to see what services are needed so the contract can be adjusted in the future.
