On Nov. 14, Houston and surrounding area residents can dispose of their household waste by recycling it at Energy Corridor Recycles Day.
“We tend to focus on e[lectronic] waste, whether it’s in your home or offices,” said Mark Klein, the communications coordinator with the Energy Corridor Management District.
Last year, 46,000 pounds of electronic waste were recycled at the event, he said.
Recyclers can dispose of other items too, including documents, which are recycled by a certified shredding company.
“We’ve made it an all-around event so you can bring old toys and old towels,” Klein said.
He said participants do not have to get out of their cars as volunteers are there to unload the waste. Items that can be recycled include old cell phones, batteries, clothing, toys, metals, glass and plastics.
In its seventh year, the event corresponds with America Recycles Day.
“Last year we had almost 900 vehicles [come to the event] and usually there’s a couple of people to the cars,” he said.
Klein said that people are better about recycling computers, but other electronics are not recycled as much.
“This is a great opportunity to dispose of your electronics responsibly,” he said. “These electronics have some pretty serious chemicals in them and they can be hazardous.”
Recycle items at Addicks Park and Ride, 14230 I-10, Houston on Saturday, Nov. 14 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
