A series of upcoming public meetings will aim to inform community members about how the city of Austin and Austin ISD plan for disaster recovery.
The city is updating its 2010 Hazard Mitigation Plan, which identifies how to reduce the impact of natural disasters, including droughts, floods, hurricanes and wildfires, according to a news release.
AISD’s role in the process will be brainstorming with the city on various projects to address vulnerabilities that have been discovered, said John Gaete, AISD emergency management coordinator.
AISD has used social media to spread awareness to the public about the update to the plan.
“The ‘heavy lifting,’ however, will be carried out by the city of Austin, since their constituents intersect with ours to a great extent,” Gaete said in an email.
The city will host public meetings scheduled on July 13 and 16 about the plan update:
