Microsoft opened its 10th Texas store at Stonebriar Centre on June 25, and the grand opening began with the technology company giving back to Frisco.

Microsoft donated about $1.5 million in technology grants to various local organizations, including the Boys and Girls Club of Collin County and the Dallas Arboretum.

The Frisco Public Library received $100,000 in grants to be used toward new software at the library.

Audie Adkins, Frisco Public Library Foundation president, said the grant money could be used in conjunction with the voter-approved $37 million bond to expand city hall and the library.

“Since we passed the bond issue for the expansion of the library, this [grant] will help us expand all the services that we have and update the services that we have for our community,” she said.

Store Manager Mark Fredrickson said the store’s employees will also give back to the community.

“All of my team here has put in a lot of volunteerism,” he said. “We are truly, truly passionate about giving back to the community.”

Some products offered include the Dell Inspiron 15 and the HP Stream 7. The store also includes a help desk that can perform free PC tune-ups and free virus removal.

The store has associates that can speak at least one of six different languages, Fredrickson said.

Mayor Maher Maso said Microsoft is the perfect fit for the city.

“Microsoft, when they started off as a small company, they gave back to the community,” he said. “Now as a large company in our community of Frisco, the first thing they do is give back to the community.”
