The Yahagi frappe was created so that Hummingbird Tea Room and Bakery could offer guests cold tea, owner Nasim Bell said. Although cold drinks like bubble teas are popular, Bell said they include too many artificial ingredients. So she created the Yahagi frappe, a matcha tea drink.
“I had heard of matcha tea being offered as a cold drink and decided to experiment at the tea room,” Bell said.
The drink’s ingredients include dairy, almond or soy milk, ice, frappe mix, simple syrup and chia seeds.
Bell said the drink pairs well with the bakery’s baguettes and other menu items.
“I have customers adding the Yahagi frappe to the apple cheddar salad—the sharpness of the Irish cheddar pairs well with the slight sweetness of the frappes.”
