At its regular meeting held Monday, April 13, Katy City Council approved an ordinance that will allow The Church at Cane Island to worship at Midway BBQ at 6025 Highway Blvd., Katy.

With the council's approval, the church will be able to conduct worship, Bible study and other church related operations at the restaurant from 8 a.m.-12 p.m. on Sundays.

Jon Davis, pastor of the Church of Cane Island, said the church will strive to cause minimal disruptions to nearby local businesses and residents.

"The parking lot [at Midway BBQ] is on the south side of the business and a fence separates a residential area to the south," Davis said at the meeting. "Businesses [on either side of Midway BBQ] do not operate during our normal meeting hours. Therefore, there should be little to no disruption to their ability to conduct business during these times."

Church services at the restaurant are likewise expected to cause minimal traffic disruptions, Davis said.

The ordinance will stay in effect for one year or until the church finds alternative worship space, Davis said.

"As a new church we are excited about the growth of the city of Katy and look forward to being a part of this community for many years to come," Davis said.
