The existing overpass at FM 2920 will remain closed from April 6 at 9 a.m. until the opening of the Tomball Tollway to traffic at 6 p.m. on April 12.
"This closure will allow for the remaining work items on the existing concrete pavement to be complete," said Mary Benton, manager of media relations and public affairs for the Harris County Toll Road Authority. "These items include installation of the outside rail, removal of temporary asphalt ramps and completion of free southbound entrance ramp south of FM 2920."
The city of Tomball and the Greater Tomball Area Chamber of Commerce will celebrate the opening of the Tomball Tollway with a family-friendly Stroll the Toll public event from 2-4 p.m. on April 12. The ribbon cutting and news conference will begin at 2 p.m.
To locate parking for the events, residents and visitors can enter the Tomball Tollway from the south at the entrance ramp near Medical Complex Drive. Police are expected to be on-site to assist drivers.
Construction began in October 2013 on the new 6-mile roadway spanning from Spring Cypress Road to just north of FM 2920. The cost to drive the entire Tomball Tollway is $1.45. The EZ TAG-only roadway will begin collecting electronic tolls immediately.
