Mardi Wareham, whotook ownership of Singing Telegrams of Austin six years ago, said she ispreparing for Valentines Daytypically her busiest time of year. "I just think its a lot of fun. Its fun for me, and its definitely fun for the people I sing to and its really fun for the people that hire me as well," Wareham said. "It's quite a surprise to see a giant chicken walking up to your cubicle." Her giant chicken costume, gorilla suit and hula girl outfit are her three most popular costumes, Wareham said. Those costumes are used year-round to perform specialty songs or hand off gifts, such asa box of chocolates during Valentines Day. She performs songs requested by those who hire her after a little introduction song such as, 'I brought you a little chocolate, but chocolates not as sweet as you. I just want to say, in a musical way, Happy Valentines to you,' Wareham said. The recipient of the singing telegram then has the opportunity to guess who sent them the unique gift. She then reveals who was responsible, Wareham said, unless the sender requests anonymity. Singing Telegrams of Austin offers various telegram options that range from $90 to $250 depending on the costume and additions, Wareham said.
