The first year with a storefront at Paul Littlefield’s bike shop, Georgetown Cyclewerx, has been better than he expected, he said.
“It has exceeded my wildest expectations,” Littlefield said.
He opened his store on Williams Drive after operating inside Central Texas PowerSports on Austin Avenue for four years.
“Being here and having a storefront has been a big deal,” Littlefield said, adding that the location has increased the store’s visibility among Georgetown residents. “It’s been crazy.”
Along with a selection of bicycles for children to adults at any riding level, the store offers service and repair work as well as basic maintenance classes and weekly rides on Saturdays. Littlefield said the group rides have grown throughout the year.
The group has about six routes throughout Georgetown, and in the spring the group plans to use the weekly rides to train for the Red Poppy Bike Ride in April, he said.
Littlefield also helped select the bikes purchased for the city’s bikeshare program, which offers residents and visitors a chance to check out bicycles at the Georgetown Public Library or the Visitors Center.
“Georgetown has been gradually extending the bike paths,” Littlefield said. “They’ve done a good job, and I think we will see more of that.”
