A new Pilates studio and a high-end massage business will open in The Domain this fall.
One year after opening their first studio near The University of Texas, Allison Slapnicka and Cameron Drummond decided to expand into The Domain.
The second Pure Pilates Austin studio will open in November at 11011 Domain Drive next door to Blo Blow Dry Bar. The couple chose The Domain for its growth and because the development needed more fitness options.
"We looked at The Domain because the entire area is growing," Slapnicka said. "People are moving to North Austin, but there's not a lot of boutique fitness options."
Pure offers Pilates classes using the Lagree Fitness method founded by Sebastien Lagree in Los Angeles. Drummond said the Megaformer machines used in the classes are similar to Pilates Reformer machines but with more functionality to quickly transition to the next exercise. Slapnicka said the Lagree machines are designed to develop core muscles and lengthen muscles but also bring an aerobic element to the workout and keep one's heart rate up.
"You keep moving at a slow pace to activate muscles and develop endurance," she said.
She said this is the only studio in Austin to offer this type of Pilates. Because of the size of the machines, classes are smaller with no more than eight to 10 people. Pure Pilates will offer specials when the new location opens and allow people to try out the machines. Next door to Pure Pilates, Gabi Bogner and Rei Leigh Harmer will open Massage at The Domain in December.
"We'll have a wide range of massage services and specialty facials," Bogner said. "It will be a high-end spa but at a low price point. We don't want to be a place where people go for a special occasion. We're trying to cater to everybody and want people to come back every month."
Services will include Swedish, deep tissue, sports and volcanic-stone massage as well as red-light therapy and microdermabrasion facials.
Bogner said she and Harmer chose The Domain because of its growth. They waited a year until Fiat of Austin relocated and will occupy 2,800-square-feet of space at 11011 Domain Drive, Ste. 124. Bogner said the building's other tenants, such as Dolce Blu Lash Studio, will complement their business.
This is Bogner and Harmer's first business together. Bogner said she is following in the footsteps of her mother and sister, both of whom are licensed massage therapists.
