The Woodlands will see a busy election season this fall after 10 candidates filed to vie for four open positions on the community's board of directors.



Three of the four positions arecontested, with Position 1 incumbent Gordy Bunch being the lone director running unopposed. Positions 2, 3 and 4 are also up for election this year, with each seeing its incumbents facing challenges.



The race for Position 2 includes incumbent Mike Bass and Ron Mullins. Bass, who is a retired business consultant, was first elected to the board in 2012 and also serves on the township's ad hoc transportation committee. Mullins is a financial adviser and a six-year resident of The Woodlands.



David Cassidy and Ryan Elkins will challenge incumbent Jeff Long for the Position 3 seat. Long was first elected to the township board in 2012. He is a retired civil engineer and also serves on the township's ad hoc transportation committee. Cassidy is a physical therapist and three-year resident of The Woodlands, and Elkins works in customer relations and is a 10-year resident of The Woodlands.



Walter Boyd, Sharon Lavery, Jim Meszaros and incumbent Ed Robb are vying for the Position 4 seat. Robb was elected to the position at the onset of the township governance in 2010. He is the pastor of Woodlands United Methodist Church and serves on the township's ad hoc economic development committee. Meszaros is a financial adviser and has lived in The Woodlands for 14 years. Lavery is a chemical engineer and is a three-year resident of The Woodlands, and Boyd is a lawyer and has lived in The Woodlands for three years.



Township directors serve two-year terms and are not paid for their service. All four positions up for vote are elected at-large by residents of The Woodlands Township living in both Montgomery and Harris counties.



Election Day is Nov. 4, with early voting beginning Oct. 20. The last day to register to vote is Oct. 6.
