Two mosquito samples in Grapevine have tested positive for carrying the West Nile Virus.
City officials said the positive samples were collected in the 1800 block of Hall-Johnson Road and in the 2600 block of Briarwood Dr.
Since the Briarwood area has previously had samples detected that were positive, the city scheduled a three-day mosquito control ground spraying on August 28, 29 and 30 beginning at 10 p.m. Hall-Johnson is scheduled for August 28 only beginning at 10 p.m. The areas to be sprayed are within a half mile radius of the 1800 block of Hall-Johnson Drive and a half mile radius of the 2600 block of Briarwood.
Officials are asking residents in these areas to take the following precautions during spraying: stay indoors, keep windows and doors closed, bring pets inside for the night, cover birdbaths and ornamental ponds and if inside a vehicle while the trucks are actively spraying, residents are advised to stay in the vehicle until the trucks are no longer in sight.
Residents who come in contact with the spray are advised to wash the affected area thoroughly with soap and water, the spray breaks down quickly in the presence of sunlight and has no residual effect.
