Grapevine-Colleyville ISD trustee Leon Leal will be the newest member of the Texas State Board for Educator Certification after an appointment by Gov. Rick Perry for a term to expire in 2017.

Leal, owner of Abba Staffing and Consulting Inc. and Abba Professional Group, is a member, past vice president and past secretary of the GCISD Board of Trustees. He has served as a member of the GCISD Education Foundation Board of Directors, as well as a volunteer for the Grapevine High School Go Center, among other charitable and volunteer pursuits.

GCISD Superintendent Robin Ryan said the development is good for the district.

"[Leon] Leal has served on our board for six years, is active in our schools and community and is invested in the future of education," Ryan said. "We are proud to have GCISD representation at the state level and the opportunity to continue our service to the teachers and students of the state of Texas."

Leal was re-elected to his Place 6 seat on the GCISD board after running unopposed in the May 10 election.
