Austin's second Trader Joe's store opens June 20 at 8 a.m., and residents can expect to see a taste of Northwest Austin inside.
"Austin is full of foodies, and coming to Austin is great for us," said Tim Krzeminski, the store's captain or general manager.
The store, located at 9722 Great Hills Trail, Ste. 200, is adorned in murals depicting scenes from around Austin including the cows at the Arboretum, kayaking on Lake Austin, the Austin skyline and Camp Mabry.
Krzeminski moved to Austin from Chicago to run the store. He said that although store employees painted the murals, artistic ability was not a requirement for the job.
"We're trying to capture the neighborhood," he said.
He said Trader Joe's offers more than 3,000 products, about 80 percent of which are from the business's own private label. Items include wine, beer, pasta, sauces, frozen foods and vitamins.
Krzeminski said the company's buyers travel throughout the world trying to find products, such as coffee. All products are free of artificial flavors or colors and genetically modified organisms, or GMOs, he said.
"We introduce new products every single year," Krzeminski said. "Things that sell well stay on the shelf."
A grand-opening ceremony takes place at 8 a.m., and Krzeminski said the Austin Police Department will provide assistance with traffic flow June 20–22.
