Affordable housing developer Foundation Communities withdrew its proposal for Cardinal Point, 11108 and 11300 Zimmerman Lane, Austin, on May 30, Executive Director Walter Moreau said.
The project, originally slated for a side street off RR 620, would have included 124 units ranging from $583 to $758 in rent a month, he said.
"The critical issue for us is the safety of an exit from Zimmerman [Lane] to [RR] 620, especially turning left," Moreau said.
Austin City Councilman Chris Riley voted against supporting tax credits for the project during a March 20 Council meeting and said he did not support adding affordable housing projects in areas that lack mass transit, such as Four Points.
Marc Chase, developer of a small single-family community across the street from the proposed development, said he collected 2,500 signatures of neighbors opposed to the new build.
"It was zoned single-family, and we felt the city should honor that," he said.
Moreau said the company has plans to relocate the proposed project to a site near the Lakeline train station.
