Autumn Leaves, which operates 36 memory care communities in four states, broke ground March 27 on a new $10.7 million community in Northwest Austin.
The assisted-living community will cater to caring for people who have Alzheimer's and other forms of dementia. It will be located on four acres at 10025 Anderson Mill Road and will open to residents in November. The company—started by CEO Mitchell Warren and his father, Melvin, 15 years ago in Irving—also broke ground March 26 on a community in Georgetown, Mitchell Warren said.
Warren said he and his father started the company because of their passion to care for people with Alzheimer's and dementia and give back to the community. The model is one that they created.
"There are other businesses in the industry but not a lot in stand-alone memory care," Warren said. "We're in one building called the residence community that is totally dedicated to people with Alzheimer's and dementia. It's safe and secure. The whole building is for them to use, and it feels like a large house."
Warren said his family researched the philosophies and activities programs they use at Autumn Leaves. He said being privately owned by his family is also unique.
"We do everything from start to finish to create the best product from start to end, from construction to management of the property," he said.
Warren said the Northwest Austin community will be about 26,000 square feet and be able to accommodate 46 residents with 40 part- and full-time staff members. Autumn Leaves will also partner with therapy agencies and other healthcare organizations to provide services to its residents. The company plans to provide support groups for area residents who have relatives with Alzheimer's or dementia.
"We're really active in the community," Warren said.
