Owner adds new Grapevine Candy Co.

Rebecca Knop saw opportunity and went for it.

She had been successfully keeping area kitchens stocked with high-quality olive oil and gifts for several years as owner of Grapevine Olive Oil Co. on Main Street.

Over time she saw room for something sweet.

"I just saw a need down here for nostalgic candy," Knop said.

She moved the olive oil business to 340 S. Main St., up the street from the original space it shared with Willow Cottage at 326 S. Main St.

In September, she installed the new Grapevine Candy Co. in the shared space.

The timing was excellent, Knop said.

"We did really well for the holidays," she said.

The shop stocks everything from bubble gum to fine chocolate to popcorn, with a heavy emphasis on paper-wrapped candies that are sold from a jar.

The colorful atmosphere brings to mind the old-time dime store or drugstore candy that used to be in many downtowns.

Meanwhile, the olive oil business is settled in its new location, Knop said, still selling about 70 kinds of oils and vinegars.

As at the former location, the different varieties of oils can be tasted before purchase.
