Six public meetings are scheduled Jan. 7–9 for the Round Rock ISD community to receive information and discuss a potential May 2014 bond election in the district.

Round Rock ISD's Citizens Bond Committee will present information about some of the district's priority needs to address growth in areas such as as safety, health, curriculum and infrastructure.

The committee was formed in the fall after the board of trustees discussed a potential need for a bond election at its Oct. 17 meeting. The committee is comprised of four subcommittees—elementary, secondary, finance, and district and technology—and is responsible for assessing the district. Committee members will deliver a robust list of needs to the board no later than Feb. 14. The board has until Feb. 28 to call a May 2014 bond election.

In the fall, the board discussed a potential bond election for May 2014, noting several of the district's schools are overcrowded and are in need of infrastructure upgrades. At an Oct. 17 meeting, district officials said RRISD has increased by 15,000 students in the past 13 years, which is about 1,000 new students per year. Board President Catherine Hanna said the district could also consider a bond election until 2015.
