City Council approved the first reading of an ordinance Nov. 26 to amend the planned unit development district for The Summit at Rivery Park development.
The project includes The Brownstone at The Summit and the future Sheraton Hotel and conference center.
Council also approved the first reading of an ordinance to amend the project's Tax Increment Reinvestment Zone. The ordinance outlines five amendments, including adding 8.33 acres into the TIRZ, allowing the city or TIRZ board to enter into economic development agreements to incentivize development in the project as well as extending the terms of the TIRZ until Dec. 31, 2041.
Plans for the development also include 80,000 square feet of retail space, 20,000 square feet of restaurant space and 223 high-end multifamily units.
