Georgetown's Convention and Visitors Bureau Board is accepting applications for hotel occupancy tax, or HOT, grants to support events that bring overnight visitors to the city.

Event organizers may fill out an application on the city website here. The requirements indicate the event must take place in Georgetown and bring people to stay in hotels or bed and breakfasts within the city. A two-part test is included in the application to determine if an event is eligible for a grant.

Georgetown HOT revenue funds the grants, which are intended to help establish new arts, cultural and sporting events in the city, Tourism Manager Cari Miller said.

"It's really targeted toward start-up events and new projects," she said. "We're trying to bring new things into town."

Most applications request about $1,500 in grant funding and put the money toward advertising costs, Miller said.

Applications must be received by Jan. 31, 2014. The Convention and Visitors Bureau Board will hear presentations from applicants at their meeting Feb. 7 and announce grant recipients on Feb. 28.
