Tarrytown The users of the neighborhood pool and park will see some improvements to the facilities, including the pool and trail as they undergo construction.

Construction is expected to last until the end of May 2014, according to city of Austin officials.

"What we have going on at West Enfield Park is the complete rebuild of the pool that was there," said Reynaldo Hernandez, a landscape architect with the city.

Hernandez said the pool, which was built in the 1930s, was in poor condition with leaking cracks along the floor and walls of the pool shell. The pool was noted by the city's Aquatics Department as needing to be refurbished. Hernandez said many of the city's pools were built before 1940, and most pools have a lifespan of about 30 years.

The city is also looking to build a new connective trail from the walkway on Enfield Road to the existing park trail. Other improvements along the walkway also are included in the plans, such as planting trees for shade over about half of the existing trail.

The basketball courts are open at the park, but the tennis courts are closed because the contractor is using the space for a trailer. The tennis courts will reopen once the trailer is removed. In the future, Hernandez said there are plans for the tennis courts to get a new playing surface.
