The Williamson County Commissioners Court during its Oct. 29 meeting approved a resolution stating their support for a state proposition that would amend the Texas Constitution to establish a State Water Implementation Fund and State Water Implementation Revenue Fund.
Proposition 6 was approved by "overwhelming majorities" in the Texas House of Representatives and Texas Senate during the regular session of the 83rd Texas Legislature, according to the resolution.
If voters approve the proposition Nov. 5, the legislature is authorized a one-time $2 billion investment from the Economic Stabilization Fund (also known as the Rainy Day Fund) to provide consistent, ongoing state financial assistance for water supplies, according to information on The Texas Water Development Board website.
"I, for one, am very in favor of that," County Judge Dan Gattis said at the meeting.
The resolution approved by the commissioners Tuesday also states that "Proposition 6 would help Texas safeguard the future of one of our critical resources and provide a conservative solution to meet the state's growing water needs."
