A free health forum hosted by the Austin/Travis County Health and Human Services Department takes place Oct. 17 to increase health awareness and to receive public input about how to improve health in Travis County.
The meeting will include resources on how to live a healthier lifestyle and takes place at the North Austin YMCA, 1000 W. Rundberg Lane from 6:30–8:30 p.m. Attendees do not need to RSVP in advance.
The ATCHHSD and its community partners such as Capital Metro, Central Health, Seton Healthcare Family and St. David's Foundation have conducted public meetings, focus groups and more for wellness education and to receive public input about what Travis County communities need to be healthy.
The outreach and community health assessment data helped to develop the Community Health Improvement Plan, which aims to decrease obesity, increase accessibility to healthy foods and to improve transportation to health care facilities.
"We want to continue engaging the community into the health improvement planning in order to make it more sustainable," said Veena Viswanathan, project manager for ATCHHSD.
Another public meeting will be held in South Austin in spring 2014 at a time and date to be determined, Viswanathan said. For more information call 512-972-5888, 512-972-5410 or visit www.austintexas.gov/healthforum.
