Gus's Fried Chicken's first Austin location is aiming to open by mid- to late-November, according to Wendy McCrory, the franchise president of the Memphis-based restaurant.
The restaurant will be located downtown at 117 San Jacinto Blvd. Gus's Fried Chicken uses hand-battered chicken that is fried in peanut oil, which allows the chicken to retain its natural juices, McCrory said.
"We are excited to get open [in Austin], and we don't want to delay by any means," McCrory said. "We want to make sure everything is right."
In addition to fried chicken, Gus's serves a variety of sides such as baked beans and cole slaw. Gus's will be located in the former Mongolian Grill location.
