Jollyville's newest establishment, Pour House Pints & Pies, opened Oct. 1, serving up specialty pizzas and 33 beers on draft.
Owners Marcos Canchola and Brian Hyde overhauled the building, which had previously housed Jollyville Bar & Grill and Austin Diner at Jollyville Bar & Grill. The establishment has a revamped interior with a new zinc bar top and features an expansive outdoor patio.
One of the newest features is the tap wall featuring local favorites from Austin Beerworks, (512) Brewing Company, Real Ale Brewing, Live Oak Brewing Company, Independence Brewing Co. and Thirsty Planet Brewing Company.
Canchola said he and Hyde decided to serve pizzas so that the new establishment would not compete with the duo's other businesses nearby, namely The Hideout Pub on MoPac near Parmer Lane. He said they hired chef Austin Skinner to come up with the menu.
The menu includes 12 specialty pies, such as The Dude, which is topped with a parmesan white sauce, marinated chicken, crispy bacon and artichoke hearts, and Third Coast, a pie topped with the white sauce, sauted tiger shrimp, rosemary, red onions and fried capers. Pies come in an 8-inch or 14-inch size and cost between $7–$15. Customers can also build their own pie.
"We've had amazing feedback on the pies," opening manager Shannon Whitney said.
Pour House also offers a gluten-free crust from Austin-based Smart Flour Foods.
Whitney said Pour House Pints & Pies will soon offer wine on tap and that most beers on draft cost less than $3.50.
Pour House is also a sister bar to Barfly's, MugShots Bar, Violet Crown Social Club, Bender Bar and Grill and the other Pour House Pub on Burnet Road, which is slated to temporarily close in December because of construction of a condo building. The Pour House Pub will reopen in a new building.
Pour House Pints & Pies is located at 11835 Jollyville Road and is open Mon.–Fri. 3 p.m.–midnight and noon–1a.m. Sat.–Sun. For more information, call 512-270-4740.
