When construction is finished in the middle of November, Eldorado Parkway will run six lanes all the way through the Frisco city limits.
City street operations staff members said construction on the last stretch—from Preston east to Custer Road—is on schedule and the road is expected to open the second week of November. Construction began in January.
The latest Eldorado Parkway project included expanding to six lanes a:
- 1-mile stretch of four-lane road from Preston to Hillcrest;
- 1.6-mile stretch of two-lane road from Hillcrest to Fragrant; and
- 1.5-mile four-lane stretch from Fragrant to Custer.
Road work also includes 700 feet of Coit Road, north from the Coit Road/Eldorado Parkway intersection.
Eldorado Parkway is classified as a major thoroughfare on the city's thoroughfare plan and city staff members said the amount of traffic dictated the need for the expansion.
Eldorado is currently open to traffic and will remain open throughout the last stages of work.
Taking alternate routes is not necessary, staff members said.
At some point in the next couple weeks, there will be one more traffic switch at Coit Road for the work to be completed at the Eldorado Parkway and Coit Road intersection.
The project includes paving, drainage, sidewalks, street lights, signals, landscaping and irrigation.
The $6.85 million project is funded with $3.425 million from the city of Frisco and $3.425 million from Collin County.
