The Bond Program Advisory Committee for Austin Community College delivered a robust list of recommended priority projects for the potential Nov. 5 bond election, including the building of a Leander campus, improvements for campuses districtwide and renovations for ACC's Highland campus June 17.
The committee's recommendation list to the board of trustees focuses on 11 key items and are ranked in order of importance. The committee recommended $1.53 million in renovations for ACC's Highland as its No. 1 priority. Other recommendations as part of the 11 key items include the expansion of the Elgin, Hays and Round Rock campuses.
In addition to those expansions, one of the co-chairs of the committee, Tom Glenn, said more land must be acquired for the South Austin campus to prepare for its future.
"South Austin campus has no room to grow," he said.
Glenn said that another area of growth that ACC needs to prepare for is Leander and stressed the importance of building a campus there.
"It's going to be a very, very large district," Glenn said. "If you look at Northeast San Antonio, that is what you're looking at because of that kind of space and that kind of population."
On Feb. 18, the board asked the committee to review all ACC master plans and recommend a detailed prioritized list for the board to review in preparation for the potential Nov. 5 bond election. The Bond Program Advisory Committee is comprised of 25 members.
In December, the board discussed working toward a Nov. 5 bond election date. However, a bond election has not been called. The board is scheduled to discuss the committee's list and next steps for the potential bond election at its July 1 meeting.
